The Importance of Customer Service When Purchasing Process Manufacturing Software

Wednesday, March 29th, 2006

Of course, as with any software, there are differences between even the most widely used software applications. These differences are designed to set one company’s process manufacturing software apart from the competition’s software. Some features can prove to be very useful in certain circumstances, while others are cosmetic at best. Unfortunately, many process manufacturers use these differences as the sole factor in deciding on a software distributor. They often overlook customer service.
Customer service is one of the most, if not the most, important facets of purchasing process manufacturing software. Not only will the level of customer service a business receives affect the implementation time frame, it can also have an effect on the level of functionality achievable with the software. Process Manufacturing software can be highly complicated, and requires training not only to maintain but also to properly utilize. In order to get the full benefit of all available features, personnel must be fluent in the organization and integration of the software as it pertains to their overall business structure. They must also be able to navigate through the various interfaces with a full understanding of the data fields that are displayed.
The software distributor should be the entity to provide the level of training necessary to successfully utilize the software they sell. Distributors who offer superior customer service will encourage active participation for an organization’s key personnel at all levels of the software implementation, from analysis to deployment. Purchasing process manufacturing software is quite an endeavor, and all pertinent criteria should be considered. While the differences in the software itself may or may not be a factor in the level of satisfaction a business receives from it’s purchase, the level of customer service the business encounters most certainly will be.]]>

Cheap Web Hosting - Choose The Right Company

Tuesday, March 28th, 2006

You have to be more aware of the web hosting company that you choose. If you have a budget stick to it, if you see hosting for little or nothing and find yourself thinking “how do they make money” stay well away, the chances are your web site will be hosted with very little bandwidth resulting in a very slow accessible and unprofessional web site. You may also find that the customer service is little or none.

You need to clearly outline your own requirements to the web hosting company, if you do not do so you are at fault and not in any position to point the finger at others. If you make a list of requirements such as particular files you need etc you can send your requirements to multiple hosting companies and see who comes back with the greater service.

If you have more than one web site to host such as affiliate marketers it is not a good idea to put all your sites with the one web host company server to start with, you need to be 100% confident with the service, so start with one web site first as a test. Remember if you do host all your websites with one host company, all it takes is one problem to bring all your sites down and could result in lose of revenue for you. At least if you have some web sites hosted by another company they will still be online.

Some web host companies offer testimonials on their own web site from valued customers recommending them. Seeing is not believing, call these customers and get a face value recommendation for yourself.

What if I have problems?

Lets be honest, problems can occur and they maybe your fault and sometimes the web host company is to blame. Problems with technology can occur any time but it’s how the hosting company react to the fault that will determine if you stay with them or not. If you find your web site dropping off line or downloading slowly at a regular basis simply change to another web host company. On going problems not fixed is a very bad sign and it shows arrogance towards their customers. Support is vital from a web host company and it should be 24 hour if it’s a large organisation.

Virus Problems and Hackers

It is up to the web host company to ensure that your files are protected from virus and hackers at all times. There has been plenty of companies who have had their web sites hacked only then to find out that the web host company had not got the latest patches and security software applied. First timers to web hosting should always ask how often updates and what software is used to protect web sites.

Tips:

In business your web site can be a large source of revenue or sometimes your only source. Always do your own backup of the web site. If the web host company experience problems and for whatever reason has no backups available your whole business could be on hold. Backups are vital so do it as regular as possible or face the consequences. Some companies have testimonials on their web site from customers, do not be afraid to call these guys for an up to date reference.

If you where taking on an employee you would check all references, this is similar. Always get the full contact details of the web hosting company, many people simple go online and have an email address only as the contact. If their email goes down and you need to contact them you should have their full details at hand. Always shop around for the different web hosting plans and compare, you will find large differences, after you settle with a budget ask the necessary questions before you sign up.

The Importance of Having a Lawyer

Tuesday, March 28th, 2006

More than just problem solvers, a lawyer can help prevent problems from even coming into fruition. While most people seek the aid of these legal eagles only when problems arise, it would be wise to have a lawyer to provide you with all the legal you need.

In today’s world, legal issues spring up almost always on a regular basis. Most probably, you do not have the time to come deal with all of them. Having a lawyer to take care of all your legal affair is very much welcome and it is one sure way to free yourself from unnecessary headaches. It is very much a good idea to have a family lawyer even if you do not have problems as of the moment. A trusted solicitor will be there to take care of the things you may have overlooked and can refer you to the right people should you need further assistance.

There are times however when you really will need the help of a lawyer other than preventing problems. When the problem has become a reality, you will need to count on your lawyer’s problem-solving skills.

When your finances or liberty is on the line, you will need legal help. There are situations that arise which we do not expect or do not want. These can be trying times and for this a lawyer will provide the answer. If you find yourself being charged of a crime or served with a summons or a subpoena, a legal advice from a lawyer is very important. Most likely you are in the dark with what to do. An attorney will guide you through the entire legal maze and provide you ample protection.

Adopting a child, starting a new business or filing a divorce involves legal processes which you might not be versed with. Hiring an attorney will help you go through these steps well armed with the right legal knowledge.

There are different facets of the law and different lawyers have specialization in each one of them. Your choice of your attorney will depend on the type of your legal situation.

Our world is filled with legal issues that we may or may not like. Understanding them may be hard but there are lawyers who are skilled for this type of task and you would well benefit from their assistance.]]>

Choosing a Great UK Domain Name

Monday, March 27th, 2006

The first, and most critical, step for registering your domain name is choosing the right one. The perfect domain name is memorable, unique, easy to spell, and will rank high in searches. Here’s what to do.

1. Keep it simple. The shortest and most direct domain name is always the best. You’ll have to get creative to find it, though, because almost every single word in English is gone. Most of the best domain names being registered today are a company name, a person’s name, or two-word combinations. If you use a two-word combination, try to own it both with and without the dash: happydogs and happy-dogs.

2. Try to use a domain name with your keyword in it. If you have a dog-oriented business, the happydogs/happy-dogs domain names are perfect.

Why? Because when you use your keyword, the search engines take notice. A dog-oriented web site with the word “dog” in the URL is always assumed to be closer to what a searcher is looking for than one that doesn’t have that word in it; because the search engines are in the business of giving searchers what they’re looking for, they will rank that site higher.

3. Don’t use creative spelling. Your customers aren’t looking for a puzzle, they’re looking for you and your product. You can use the number 1 in your title, but don’t register the website Cre8ive; no one will ever find it, and it means nothing to the search engines.

4. Before you register, try to come up with at least a dozen different names; your top choices will almost certainly be taken, but it’s much less frustrating to register names when you have plenty of alternatives ready to go.

5. If you have a business that does a lot of volume in the UK or that is targeted specifically at a UK consumer base, getting UK in your domain name is a great way to rank higher in the search engines. The primary extensions for United Kingdom websites are .com and .co.uk.

However, most of the best domain names with these extensions are taken. Avoid buying a .info or another alternate extension; few people look for these. You should also avoid the .org extension unless you’re running a non-profit business. Acceptable alternatives to these extensions are the .uk.com and the .net extensions. If more than one of these extensions is available for your domain name, you should buy them all; domain names are not expensive, and you can point multiple ones at your web site. Buying multiple similar names ensures that you keep the competition away from your name, and that any search for your domain name will bring you up. Most large corporations use this trick; companies like Disney buy up every trademark they own.

6. When you register a domain name, as soon as the traffic starts picking up on it go ahead and renew it for multiple years. This is an investment. Even if you don’t keep the site yourself, you can resell your valuable virtual real estate at a profit later. Renewing it for a long time can keep someone from sneaking in and registering your domain name if you miss the expiration, too.

7. Register with a company that has been around for a while and charges enough that you know they won’t go bankrupt. This makes it much easier when you renew; instead of re-registering, all you have to do is let your registrar know that you want to renew. Shop around a bit, though, so you’ll have a good idea of price ranges.

The Internet - Life without it.

Monday, March 27th, 2006

However, the big shock to my system came with the realisation that for a period of time during those days I was extremely bored. It was fine while I was working, but afterwards without the Internet to distract me, I had nothing to do for the remainder of any working day. The evenings were fine because I have a very active social life, so no problem, but it did get me thinking about how the absence of the Internet might affect the majority of us in one way or another.

Since the ‘arrival’ of the phenomenon that is known as the Internet, we have become obsessed to some extent with the speed in which it lets us live our lives. We rarely expect to get letters from friends, family or businesses – email is there, ready, waiting and fast. We can visit just about any virtual shop in the world, buy more than we could physically carry and arrange to have it delivered, and all this can be done in just an hour of surfing without even getting out of a chair.

I began to wonder about the vast number of companies whose day-to-day business is conducted online, and what would happen if for some reason the whole Internet suddenly ceased to work. The effects would be extremely far-reaching, for example; a substantial amount of daily business communication is conducted via email, the loss of which would severely disrupt and significantly slow down the companies who rely totally on this media to send and receive information where speed is of the essence. Other parties to be considered are the private individuals whose emails possibly compare or even exceed in numbers that of corporate traffic, and business websites; without these virtual showrooms to look at, a customer would have to revert back to the old way of doing things and visit a real one - very hard on the feet!

We are all aware that the rapid advances made in Internet technology over recent years have been nothing short of astonishing. From mobile phones and their ability to send messages and photo images, as well as being able to access the Internet, to email and its almost instant delivery capability. Both have transformed information exchange and communication beyond our wildest dreams, whilst simultaneously creating a mindset that has us expecting immediate answers to any questions we may ask. It’s up to each individual to decide for themselves whether or not the Internet is for the better. I am sure there are a vast number of people in the world that prefer life the way it used to be, and their opinions must be respected.

However, to be off-line felt like some sort of isolation even though it was only temporary. It’s not something I would want to happen on a regular basis, and whilst I am sure that although we would undoubtedly cope without the Internet if we had to, the question is - would we want to?

Sure, the simplicity and speed of email would be sorely missed; the comparative ease of online shopping; the click of a mouse to pay the bills; the creature comforts that the Internet provides and what we have quickly grown to accept and expect, would eventually be forgotten or committed to a nostalgic memory, but I sincerely doubt it would be an easy transition.

We are all increasingly reliant on the Internet to make life run a bit smoother – and for me, seven days without it was more than enough to prove that.]]>

Choosing a web host based on price? Don’t!

Sunday, March 26th, 2006

Think again. First, consider how much you would be saving. If you run a business site, saving $5, $10 or even $15 a month is not a big saving. No going concern will become a stopping concern on account of even $15 a month. But the wrong web hosting service can stop a business cold.

Here are three reasons to look beyond price when choosing your web host.

Usability. Confession time: I chose my first website host based on price. The control panel was not easy to use, and I often found myself traveling in circles trying to enter it. I switched to my second web host based not just on price, but on usability, and I instantly became a pro. Well, not quite. But I was able to manage my email accounts and learn about CGI, and check my traffic stats and edit my html files right on the server. Not bad for a newbie who couldn’t even find his files on his previous host’s server.

Service. I thought my second host had great service. They even answered my emails. Until the dreaded day that some guy with a chip on his shoulder filed a phony spam complaint. I was out in the cold. In fact, they would not answer my emails or even speak to me at all. Meanwhile, my ISP responded to the same phony complaint immediately, sharing with me a copy and giving me a chance to deal with it. That ISP is now my third web host. I pay a little more, but the personal service is worth it. I have no hesitation recommending Phastnet web site hosting services to anybody who wants the assurance that they won’t be hung out to dry at the first whiff of somebody in a bad mood.

Reliability. When that phony spam complaint struck, my website was down for four days. Ouch! But there are many other things that can bring down a site. What is your web host’s uptime? And how reliable is its reporting and your monitoring? Other things can happen, like a form not functioning – meaning lost sales. Worse still, what if Google comes crawling just when your site is down? Search engines don’t like sending people to unreliable sites. Website and network monitoring services can often help avert such catastrophes, and the cost is nothing compared to the cost of lost sales.

Sure, save a few bucks on hosting, and pay a whole lot more in lost sales and increased stress. Your web host is your Internet landlord. Take as much time choosing your web host as you would the place you live in. Price alone just is not enough.

The Intricacies Of A Modern Compound Microscope

Sunday, March 26th, 2006

Chromatic aberration and spherical aberration appear in a much more reduced form when these multi-component lenses are used. To provide stable, controllable illumination the mirror is replaced by a lamp unit in a modern compound microscope.

It is basically an uncertain criterion while indicating the inventor of the compound microscope. It is often and generally believed that in 1590 two persons, father and son, spectacle-makers from the Netherlands, invented the first compound microscope. Their names were Hans Janssen and Zacharias Janssen. But there is a real heavyweight contender for the title. Galileo Galilei. In 1609 Galileo Galilei developed an “occhiolino” or compound microscope. It comprised of a convex and a concave lens. In the late 1600’s Christiaan Huygens, another inventor from the Netherlands also developed a two-lens or a compound microscope.

But whoever invented it, the compound microscope follows almost the same principal till date. The compound microscope could be divided into eight major parts depending on their functionality. They are ocular lens or eye-piece, objective turret or nosepiece, objective lenses, coarse adjustment knob, fine adjustment knob, object holder or stage, mirror and diaphragm and condenser. Each of the parts synchronizes with the other and this reveals an image that is magnified up to 1000ֳ. A compound microscope is used on specimens that have a very limited depth of field i.e. very minute or thin specimens.

A typical compound microscope is composed of three main objective lenses. The first one is the scanning lens. This one has a magnifying power of 4ֳ—. Then there is a low power lens with a magnifying power of 10ֳ—, and a high power lens with a magnifying power of 40ֳ—. In the more advanced version of the compound microscope there is an additional lease present. This fourth objective lens is an oil immersion lens. This oil immersion lens can champion a magnifying power of about 100ֳ—.

According to the Encyclopedia, “Optical microscopes are restricted in their ability to resolve features by a phenomenon called diffraction which, based on the numerical aperture (NA or /A/_/N/) of the optical system and the wavelengths of light used (־»), sets a definite limit (/d/) to the optical resolution. Assuming that optical aberrations are negligible, the resolution (/d/) is given by: d = frac {lambda} {A_N} usually, a ־» of 550 nm is assumed, corresponding to green light. With air as medium, the highest practical /A/_/N/ is 0.95, and with oil, up to 1.5. Due to diffraction, even the best optical microscope is limited to a resolution of 0.2 micrometers.”

On the whole a compound microscope is the most widely used and vastly accepted microscope in the world.]]>
