You might be a lot like me. I used to have serious stage fright. I mean, I actually preferred death over making a public speech.

Then one day my boss informed me that he needed me to make a corporate presentation. I actually tried to resign from my job because of it! Now this was a job that I loved and needed - but my fear of public speaking was stronger than my rational thought process.

Luckily my boss was a very smart person and wouldn't let me quit.
