The Web sites in the study generally portrayed their therapies as safe, effective and ready for routine use, but published research doesn't support that "overoptimistic" picture, the study authors said.

History The nurse uniform existed for a long time, as the first nurse uniforms were derived from the nun's habit. Before 1800 the nuns took care the ill (poor) people and the link with the uniform is made. The clothes were made of thick fabrics with multiple layers and were not easy to wear. One of Florence Nightengale's first students (a Miss VanRensselaer) designed the first uniform for the nursing students at Miss Nightengale's school of nursing. Before the 1940's a change occured in the uniform. The clothing consisted of a blue outfit with a blue matron(?). From the 1940s until the 1960's, hospitals were free to determine the style of the nurse uniform, including batches(?)and nurse's cap. In Britain, the National uniform is designed with the advent of National Health Care, (or simply: National) and the Newcastle dress. From the 1960's open necks begin to appear. In the 1970's, white disposable paper caps replace cotton ones; in the 1980's, plastic aprons displace the traditional ones, outerwear begins to d isappear, and caps are discarded. From the 1990s, scrubs become popular, having first appeared in the USA.

The parts of the Nurse uniform A typical student-nurse uniform consists of a dress, pinafore apron and nursing cap. In some hospitals, however, student nurses also wear a nursing pin, or the pinafore apron may have been replaced by a cobbler style apron. A "scrub dress" is a simpler type of uniform, and is sometimes worn in operating rooms. For outdoor clothing the nurse had a red jacket over the indoor Nurse uniform. Traditional uniforms remain common, but in Western Europe and North America, so-called "scrubs" have become more popular.

Nurse uniforms vs Scrubs Beginning in the 1990's, and until the present time, the traditional nurse uniforms have been replaced with the "new" scrub dress. Most hospitals in the USA and Europe argue that the scrub uniform is much easier to clean and more modern than the old nurse uniforms. The nurses who wear the uniforms are divided into two camps: • Those who love the new scrubs; they hated the old uncomfortable nurse uniforms and the patients saw them as lust objects. • The nurses who loved the old nurse uniforms; they argue that nurses who wear scrubs are seen by the patients as teachers or cleaners and cannot be identified as nurses.
